I have one of this external portable storage device to
store pictures when I am traveling, it has 30G drive
storage, I can use fine with Win98 to read the pictures
stored etc. and copy to my Win98 machine, however on the
XP I can see the drive OK, but when I try to copy it
takes for ever to respond and only copies the first file,
and then it says the the path is to long and can not
access the drive, I can see all the folders and files,
but I can not open any jpg or copy it. Again with Win98
works perfect. Under computer management it will be
listed, I can format it as a full format at least appears
to format fine, but I can not read nothing. Any ideas
anyone??????

What interface you are using to connect your external drive (e.g. USB) ?

Regards,

This is the 4th posting in two days regarding failure of
XP to properly recognize external usb hard drives. In my
case it actually worked for about 20 months, then
yesterday it decided it wouldn't. I have unistalled the
harddrive and drivers and pnp found the new device and
said it was ready but it doesn'topen. If you find an
answer, please let me know (e-mail address removed)
