external hard drive is invisible

Hi,
I have just installed an external hard disc via USB
connection to my laptop. The device manager says it is
working properly but there is no icon for it in My
Computer, so I dont know how to access it. Can anyone help.

try rebooting, updating driver (from that manufacturer),
or just waiting a little bit and checking again.
sometimes it just takes time for it to show up.

At a guess, you need to 'Partition' and 'Format' the drive.

'Control Panel', 'Administrative Tools', 'Computer Management', 'Disk
Management'
Select your drive (if it's thiere !) 'Action' menu, 'All Tasks', hopefully
you'll have option to 'Partition' drive.

If OK so far (drive partitioned), click 'Action' menu, 'All Tasks', 'Format
....' to format the drive.
