External Floppy Drive

I would have posted this under hardware, but I cannot
access them right now for some reason. Anyone know why?

Here is my question. I have a Compaq laptop that has
Windows XP and I hook up a Compaq External Floppy Drive to
the parrell port. The laptop does not see the External
Floppy Drive. Does anyone know why? The External Floppy
Drive will work on a Compaq laptop that has Windows 2000.

Do certain external floppy drives only work on certain
version of Windows?? I do not have a manual or box that
the floppy drive came in so I can't reference to that. I
do have a serial number - 1S1202S3K680RJ.

Please help me out if you can.
 
Have you tried the Compaq website to see if there may be some updated driver
for your laptop?
