I'm not sure if they exist, but what I'm looking for is a firewire hard
drive that is external and does not require a seperate power source, rather
getting power through the firewire port.

Anyone know of a company that makes these?

Thnx!

Usually (I know of no exceptions) it's required to use a pass-through
power tap, that is, a 2nd connector goes inline on the PS/2 or a USB port
to get power for the drive. That's for a laptop drive but for a desktop
drive you'd still need an external power supply.

The firewire port is not meant to supply power to a drive, you might blow
a fuse or cause other damage trying to power a drive that way. At most a
6-pin firewire connection will supply power for the enclosure circuitry.
