I have a 3,5" hard disk tight into an external enclosure (unknown brand,
"Mobile Disk External Data Storage" on one side, "HD-337 Combo" on the other
side) that offers IEEE 1394 (Firewire) & USB connectivity.
This package if connected to a desktop PC, Windows XP + SP2, based computer,
with an Adaptec DuoConnect adapter, via the 1394 interface, it works
"perfectly".......perfectly is a big word, sometimes it hangs (very rare),
but at least it is recognized by Windows.
Connecting the same external disk to a notebook with Windows XP + SP2 via
the USB interface, it works.
Connecting through the 1394 interface it doesn't:
- As soon as you plug the 1394 interface, "external device plugged in" sound
is played by Windows
- In the device manager for about 20 seconds a "hard disk" with the yellow
icon on it, it is shown
- the icon disappears and the "unplugged device" sound is played by Windows
Looking into the Event Viewer\System, the following message is shown
