What are the rules followed by Powerpoint concerning external files (suc
as movies, audio clips, etc)? I seem to be getting inconsistent results
sometimes I can take the .ppt file by itself (by emailing it, fo
example)and the presentation runs fine. Other times, the presentatio
will halt and ask for a file on the original computer's hard-drive. I
there a format besides the QuickTime movie that will allow th
presentation to be a self-contained file?

Much appreciated

Hello,

It sounds like you are using PowerPoint for the Macintosh (which has the
capability to save the presentation as a QuickTime movie). If so, you might
want to ask this question in the newsgroup for PowerPoint for the Macintosh.

microsoft.public.mac.office.powerpoint

However, if you are using PowerPoint for Windows, it provides a variety of
solutions for distributing presentations which elminate the need for you to
know this information.

If you have a presentation where everything looks/plays correctly in slide
show and you want to distribute to others (but you don't know if there are
external file dependencies), then use Pack and Go (PowerPoint 2002 and
earlier), Package for CD (PowerPoint 2003) or Save as Single File Web Page
<MHTML> (PowerPoint 2002 and PowerPoint 2003).

If you (or anyone else reading this message) think that PowerPoint should
support more options for distributing presentations (without have to resort
to VBA or 3rd party add-ins), don't forget to send your feedback to
Microsoft at:

As with all product suggestions, it's important that you not just state
your wish but also why it is important to you that your product suggestion
be implemented by Microsoft. Microsoft receives thousands of product
suggestions every day and we read each one but, in any given product
development cycle, there are only sufficient resources to address the ones
that are most important to our customers so take the extra time to state
your case as clearly and completely as possible.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions)
