Seems my well built, but now falling apart mesh pc is going wrong!
Need a new DVD-RW & thinking of going for an external drive as i can use it on other PC's too.
Any good makes to go for or any to avoid?
And would prefer USB.

Don't know about external drives but internal optical drives, in my opinion, are much of a muchness. I would assume same rules apply to external drives.

Some folks will extoll the virtue of certain makes based on thier own experiences and some will say Plextor make the best drives cos they cost more.

But I've had just about every make of optical drive fail on me over the last ten years or so, so now I just choose the one that looks the prettiest. There is one exception, one that hasn't failed on me, and that's Plextor, but it's only about 18 months old.

Lots of brands are made by one manufacturer anyway, for instance NEC drives are made by Sony.

So, my advice would be judge by price and aesthetics :)
