Hi

When I play a film on my new external hard drive, the image freezes but
when the film is copied onto an internal hard drive, there are no problems.

As the drive seems to be working ok otherwise, I reckon I have a Windows
problem and that my connection is USB 1 and not 2

I don't actually know for sure cos in a recent post, I explained that
although I had installed a USB 2 4 ports card, Windows still seemed to be
using USB 1 drivers.

For the moment, I'd like to know if a USB 1 connection could be the cause.

Thanks for any help

Certainly sounds like you've diagnosed the problem. Beside
which, when a USB2 device connects as a USB1 device, for
whatever reason, Windows usually prompts you that the device can
run faster.

That said, I just chucked a Maxtor external 200G USB2 drive
because it only transferred at 12 MBps, where as my other USB2
drives always run above 27 MBps. So it's possible that your
drive is USB2 and underperforming!
