External Drive Dual Boot

Is it possible and, if so, how do I set up a dual boot system with XP and
Linux on an EXTERNAL firewire hard drive?

AFAIK XP cannot boot from an external device.

XP is on the internal drive. I want to put Linux on the external (firewire)
hard drive.
