I have a Samsung 160GB HD in an external exclosure, MAP-
H31C1(-02F).
It is connected via 1394.
During long copy operations, it stucks and than the
external drive disconnects.
The drive letter disappears in the explorer.
Sometimes the drive letter reappears, but is inaccessible.
Any suggestion ?

Ray,

I'm having the same problem here, but with a USB 2.0
external drive (WD 160gb in a Generic ME-320X enclosure.)

Windows event log captures the following:

An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk1\D
during a paging operation.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

I'm pretty stumped. Happens on both my Intel and AMD
boxes..

I have the same problem, with a 200GB Western Digital
Drive in an ME-320 series enclosure (unbranded, but with
the Oxfod 911 chipset). I haven't found a solution, and
its continuing even after a complete reformat. The drive
worked continuously for a long time (a weekend) after I
first installed it, then it disconnects randomly now,
whether I'm actively using it or not. I'm using a
Ziplinq cable.

This is the only thing I found in the knowlege base that
seems to address this problem:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;811077&Product=winxp

I'm running this off a Dell Inspiron 8000.

If I look in the event viewer's "system" log (Control
panels --> Administrative Tools --> Event Viewer) I
usually see a series of entry labeled "ftdisk" with "The
system failed to flush data to the transaction log.
Corruption may occur" in the description.

If any of this information matches your problem, let me
know, as well as any further information and/or solutions
you have found. Thanks

R Lin
