External Devices

I would like to know what a MTP Device is.

It has appeared underneath my list of Drives in My Computer. It has not been
assigned a 'letter' and when I try to open to get info I'm told "You do not
have permission to use this programme", so how did it get there and whats the
point if I can't use it.
