external CD writer on usb 1.1 will it work?

I am thinking of putting a CD writer in a case that will convert it to
an external drive. If I connect the cd writer to my laptop that has a
usb 1.1 port will the data transfer be fast enough to write to the CD
writer drive?

You have to burn at 6X or less.

Just make sure you have "buffer underrun" and that it is enabled
whenever you are writing.
