Extensions to Shortcuts

I like to display my file extensions (Folder Options | View
| uncheck Hide file extensions for known file types).
Recently, the computer froze, and after I rebooted all my
shortcuts are now showing their extensions (i.e., Ink).
Everything else seems to be working fine, but I'd like to
get rid of those shortcut extensions. I know this is
controlled by a registry key, but that's the extent of my
talent.

Can anyone help?

Run regedit.exe, navigate to
HKLM\Software\Classes\lnkfile
and create an empty Reg_Sz string named "NeverShowExt"
