What motherboard??? If what you say is correct, you will have to upgrade
your board. You cannot expand memory with PCI bus, it is too slow.
Mike.

Oh , it's an old ST6-RAID

So I understand that the upgrade will be a little bit more expensive :>(
since if I change the motherboard I have to change quite all the components
to get the last technology

Thanks for your advice,

You'll need to change board, RAM, CPU, and probably get a better power
supply. If you're using a PCI video card, you should be okay, but if
it's AGP1x it probably won't work in a new board IIRC.

I'm going to die rather sooner than I'd like. I tried to protect my
neighbours from crime, and became the victim of it. Complications in
hospital following this resulted in a serious illness. I now need a bone
marrow transplant. Many people around the world are waiting for a marrow
transplant, too. Please volunteer to be a marrow donor:

Abit site says 512Mb module! You have 3 slots, so can fit 1.5Gb.
Software that requires more than 1.5Gb will be very slow on a PIII. Why do
you think you need 2Gb?
Mike.

That's what I thought at first when I went to Abit's site and looked up the
manual, but reading on, it does state clearly that the system is overall
limited to 512meg max.
Even if you follow the links to Crucial to look up compatable memory, they
only list up to 256meg sticks for that board.

Go figure...

The 512MB listed is the maximum system memory in total and is a built-in
limit of the 815E chipset.
