Extending time for the first image

I have a Gif file I made using Ulead Cool 3D. I includes rotating text, as
well as a lightning strike in it. It will import into Movie Maker, save and
play correctly. I will only play for a second or two. What I would like it
to do is play for about 5 seconds, then go on to the next image. The only
way that I have found to extend the time it is played, is to import several
of them into Movie Maker, one right after the other, without any
transitions, etc. I also saved the same Ulead image as a AVI file, imported
it into Movie Maker, and found the same results, plays for the same amount
of time. Is it possible to extend the time a image or avi file is played. I
tried to extend the time line on the story board, but it will only extend so
far. Any suggestion?

Which would indicate it's not just any .gif. It's an ANIMATED .gif. And as
such, it's a little "movie" with a duration time all it's own.

Then that's the duration of the .gif (Probably set to loop=1)

Correct. That's one way to do it.

If you extend the playing time of the file you're currently working with it
would play in "slow-mo" at best, or "choppy" at worst. I expect that won't
be satisfactory.

If you don't like the idea of adding the same animated .gif to several
frames, you could recreate the .gif and set the "loop" to 2 or 3 (or however
long you need to fill the required time) rather than just once. I'm sure
there must be an option for that in the program that created it.

Actually the animated gif file was created to loop indefinitely, so adding
several of them to MM is my best hope at this point.

I don't have one to mess around with, but I found this post from October in
a forum;

".... After dragging your animated gif import down to the *timeline*, select
it and drag the right end as far right as you wish. It will play seamlessly.
Note, you may have to use the "+" toggle to stretch the timeline out far
enough for there to be a place to start your drag."
