Expression Service

I just added the BCM to my XP machine running office 2003. Everything worked
well. Had to install SP1 since I did not have the update yet but that was
not a problem. The window popped up asking me to connect to a database and i
connected to one on the other computer. Firewalls off, just for good measure
that nothing was being blocked. Everything seems fine until I restart
outlook. A window pops up telling me:

"Failed to start the Expression Service. The Expression Service might not
be installed. This problem may be resolved by using Detect and repair on the
Help menu or by re-running Office 2003 setup."

What on earth is the expression service??? tried Detect and repair but that
did not work. Reinstalling Office means a lot of coustomization gone, a real
pain. Any ideas on how to fix would be appreciated.

I believe the "Expression Service" is a part of JET, the database
service used by Access and other application. I don't think BCM uses
this. BCM uses native SQL Server drivers for normal db operations, but
it may use jet in certain circumstances; e.g. when it imports data fom
Access.

I would try uninstalling Access and reinstalling it. If that doesn't
work, try installing the latest MDAC service pack. I think the latest
is:

Part of Jet, that;s what I got from a google search.

Strange thing is that I got the data folders to work, but the that top menu
item with the business commands just did not come up.

WOW, Just uninstalled Access and now OUTLOOK won't even run at all! At
least before it worked after the error.

Now have the message that outlook could not start because the server is not
available.....

ok, got Outlook working again after a reboot. It still had the Expression
service error. Reinstalled Access, but that did not fix it.

Also the update did not help.

the expression service in outlook is related to math expressions... and the
ability to create custom fields with such expressions. I haven't seen an
expression error in years though - since like ol98. <g>

look in the event viewer and see if there are any clues to what program
might be causing it - outlook, BCM, or MSDE. if BCM is still in your
profile, remove it and see if the error goes away.

Great advice, Diane...

Also, this is a long shot, but there were some known issues with the Timex
Datalink Watch add-in. You wouldn't happen to have that installed, do you?
While you're at it you should also check if you have any other third-party
add-ins that may be the cause....

The error you are receiving can be resolved by reinstalling the MDAC for
Office 97. I just recently deployed BCM through PatchLink, and happened upon
this error. The only way we were able to resolve the issue was to reinstall
the MDAC (other than a system reinstall without Access 97, and the MDAC).
