While installing Outlook 2002 onto a new computer that did not have Outlook
previously, I went back to old computer to export my .pst file from Outlook
2000 version. I get a message on the new computer that access is denied
while trying to import the file. Anyone know what is causing this?
:)

Do not export but simply copy the file to the other machine. Make sure the
"Read Only" file property is not set when trying to open the file.

Using OL 2000 I tried copying pst file to another computer
in network-it tells me a portion of the application is
locked and won't do it.

Check the file settings (file properties) on your .pst
file. It is probably set to "read only." Remove the
checkmark from the box.
I have seen this 100 times. I would strongly believe
that this is your issue.

I thought I had removed the "read only" attributes to the file but when I
tried it again (for ha ha's!), I remembered getting a dialog box saying
"files on this CD rom are read only" so I tried to remove the "read only"
attribute and it said I could not but gave me the option to "ignore" which I
chose. I originally thought "ignore" meant "override" but IT DOES NOT! My
blunder - the pst file was still read only so your advice was probably
right. So now I have the question, how do I make a CD rom not read only? I
used the cd software in my old computer to format the Cd (software is
Adaptec) and when ejecting the Cd, the dialog box said I could read and
write to the Cd which I took to mean it was not read only. Am I doing
something wrong?!!
:)
Thanks so much!

....when the file is written to a CD, it may preserve
the "Read-Only" permissions.

simply, copy it to your HDD, and then run the Import
wizard to your Outlook.

hope it helps,

-----Original Message-----
Where did you export your old pst file to?
Whare are you trying to import it from?

I have seen the same error messages when a pst file has
been written to a CD or DVD, and then attempted to import
the file from the removable media. If the file is copied
to the local machine, either docs and settings, or desk
top, and imported from there it worked. I would like to
know why a pst file on a CD or DVD cannot be opened in
Outlook also.
