Hi:

I'm exporting my Favorites and the Links subfolder within favorites so that
I could later import them to a new PC using IE as well.

Is there a limit to the number of such favorites I can import?

I anticipate 800-1000 such links.

Will there be a problem importing that many links to my new browser?

TIA
-Ira

I am not aware of a limit and if there is one, I doubt it is as low as
1000. My 800 favorites only produces a bookmark.htm of 108 KB and
that is hardly a huge file. I have had no problem importing that file
on another computer.

I am not sure why you seem to class the Links folder as something
different here, as it is part of the Favorites anyway and will be
included in the export.

The only problem I remember relating to limit is this:
--------------
Favorites May Not Sort in Alphabetical Order
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;q259735
This issue can occur if you have more that 193 favorites listed on the
Favorites menu.
To resolve this issue, move the favorites into subfolders, or delete
any unused favorites until you have less than 193
---------

I don't know if that would affect an export and have never tested it.
I keep nothing in Favorites that is not in a folder or sub-folder and
don't normally put more than 24 in a folder.

Thank you, Alan for your response.

One further question:

You wrote:

My question is:

Will the subfolder called "Links" in the Favorites install itself as links
in the IE Links Toolbar when imported into the new PC?

OR

Will it simply be imported as another subfolder in the Favorites and need to
be enteres into the IE Links Toolbar by dragging the icons into it?

Thanks in advance again:

-Ira

OK. I now see your point.
On my tests of imports, the Links folder favorites in the HTML export
imports exactly where it should, i.e. into the Links folder.
That applies to all folders that exist (as the Links folder would)
before you import, assuming you import into the base folder Favorites.
e.g. if I had a folder Microsoft in the export and a folder Microsoft
already there in the receiving favorites, then the items go straight
there.

Just to put it another way, if I export my favorites then import into
the same machine, I see no difference.

If this does not happen because you import another way, then it is no
great problem to drag them across (using Windows Explorer as an easier
way of doing it)
