What is the exact sequence of steps required to take
inboxes, sent items, etc., from an outlook express 6
system, and import them on another comuputer using outlook
xp (2002)?

Noting I seem to try works.

"Help" is USELESS!

Any information would be appreciated.

In Outlook Express choose File-> Export-> Messages

Doesn't work. Nothing seems to happen. Click okay and
the dialog seems to end. Back to O/E.

Nothing is saved, no chance to specify location, can't
get data to NEW machine.

The goal is to xfer mail to a new machine running outlook
and it's not working. I'm really flumoxed here.

Using Outlook to import the raw files across the network
gets a dialog box that they can't be opened.

Correct, you can't do this in one step.

Either on old machine export from OE to Outlook on one machine and then
trasfer the pst-file
or
Transfer the dbx-files to the new machine and configure OE with them and
export to Outlook

I would go for option one.
