Sorry (I'm not an expert at this) - you are right: in Outlook Express I
had
four different identities: four separate email addresses, each with its
own
identity and profile and each with its own address book, etc. I installed
Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 (so that I can sync information with
handheld
devices) and tried setting up the same four different identities in
Outlook
2003 to match those in Outlook Express so I could use the new program for
email. This is how I tried doing it: I used "Tools"; "Email Accounts":
"Add a
new email account", etc.. After doing that, I went into each email account
and used "File"; "Import/Export"; "Import Internet mail Settings"; "Import
email and addresses" - What happened was that all of the email and address
book for one of my Outlook Express Identities (the default) went into all
four of the new Outlook email accounts - There doesn't seem to be any way
to
direct which email account gets imported - does that make sense? Any help
is
appreciated (Microsoft charges $59 for help!)
OK. Misunderstanding no 1. Adding an email account to an existing Outlook
profile is NOT the same as creating a new Profile (aka OE identity).
You can have many email accounts within the one profile - they all use the
same set of folders.
Have you downloaded new email into Outlook 2003?
Is it really necessary to have four different profiles in Outlook as opposed
to four mail accounts in the one profile and using Rules to separate the
mail into different folders?
Outlook uses the "modified date" on data to perform various functions,
including archiving.
What you SHOULD have done is to go into each identity in OE and EXPORTED the
mail from there to outlook.
I suggest that if you haven't downloaded mail to Outlook yet, you go to
Control panel-Mail, delete the data files, remove the profile, and create a
new one (or more if you MUST have more) and then in OE go into each identity
in turn and export the mail into the profile of your choice.
