I've read the knowledgebase and downloaded the Jet 4 pack
and installed it.

Still, when I export a data base to dBase II and try to
open it with dBase III, I still get the "Not a dBase
file" message.

What can I do to avoid this?

Hi Ken,

Have you checked the following?:

- The resulting dbf file should use the old DOS naming convention - 8.3
(filename.extension)
- The resulting dfe file should be placed in a folder consistent with DOS
file system (i.e. no long name folder)
- Field names in the dbf file should not be longer than 10 characters and no
spaces are allowed.

Actually.... I was able to export the file last year
using Access97 and Win98... I recently upgraded to XP and
Office XP...

So, the file meets ild dBase III+ standards.
