It's all just fuzz. What is going on?
Version: 2.1.4026.0

Actually numerous problems with this program, including crashing upon
importing videos, etc.

Could be many different things but my first thought would be a bad codec
which is one thing that could cause both problems. Click Tools -> Options ->
[Compatibility] tab
Uncheck all the filters in the list, close and reopen WMM and see if it
works.
You can then add filters one at a time until you discover which one is bad.
For more info see the Movie Maker -> Trouble Shooting -> Codec problems
section of my website.

If I may but in on this thread, is there anywhere to find the most often
need codecs along with instructions on how/where to install them? I
find all different links to different codecs, but I don't really
understand what each is supposed to do and where to file them so that MM
finds and uses whatever is required for a particular application. I
guess I've been luck to be able to capture from my cheapie Panasonic
camcorder, edit ,save, burn using Ulead DVD Workshop 2, and end up with
DVDs that play just fine on all familys' DVD players and TVs.

Hi Jim
What I generally recommend is going here:
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/XP_Codec_Pack.htm
That is a link to the Windows XP Codec pack. It is the only one I currently
have installed and it works well for all the videos I import.
