I need to export my contacts in order to import them into Siebel.
If there is a 2 line address field such as
122 Noxon Road
Suite 1A
Somewhere, NY 55555

after the export there is an odd character between the work Road and Suite
in this case.

Opening this export file in Excel...that character shows up 2 different
ways.
In the cell itself it is displayed as 2 bolded 'pipe' characters.
In the formula bar it looks like a small box (a square).
I'm not sure what that character is but I need that information separated
into another field.
The trouble is this character is not recognized by Excel as something to be
delimited on.

Please help.

It's a carriage return -- Chr(13). I haven't tried using a text formula in
Excel to break the text into two fields on that boundary, but it certainly
might be possible.

Sue,
Thank you all for your input to my dilema.
I did d/l and install the Cell View add-in. I can see where it may be
helpful but in this case it showed up as a 'Special Character'.
This really wasn't much help.

What I ended up doing is taking that column of cells and pasting it into
Word. From there I did a Show All Characters and it ended up being
recognized as a 2 'soft returns' or a Manual Line Breaks.
All I needed to do then was do a find and replace on 2 consecutive line
breaks and replace with a Tab.
Pasting that back into Excel as TEXT automatically created the second column
with the information separated as needed.

Gotta LOVE working with data!!!
I also love these newsgroups. They are a never ending source of new
information!!

Cool. Copy/paste and search/replace are wonderful features.
