why when I use MS outlook 2007 and do an export of contacts from one pc to
the other the mailing address changes from their home to the business address
if one is available. I want the contacts mailing address to remain the same

Then migrate the contacts list the correct way. Import and Export is NEVER
the way to move Outlook data from one instance of Outlook to another.
Create a new pst file by doing File-New-Outlook Data File, then COPY the
contacts into the new pst file. Close the new pst file. Copy that file to
the other machine and do the opposite.

Gordon's response is the correct approach. This is purely to add an
explanation to your question...

This has nothing to do with O'2007 specifically as an aside - this
explanation applies to all Outlook versions

Ignoring the Outlook import/export process for a moment - there are 4 sets
of addresses related to a given contact

Business
Home
Other
Mailing
*** note that the P.O.Box fields for any of these groups is identified
separately

The address that is designated as the "Mailing address" is defined by a
field called "SelectedMailingAddress" which identifies either
Business/Home/Other as the "Mailing Address". In the Outlook "Field
Chooser" the Mailing address fields are identified with the following field
names:

Mailing Address 'represents all address elements - street/city etc
Street Address
City
Prov/State
Country/Region
Postal Code
PO Box

Returning focus back to the Outlook import/export field list - you can not
import/export either the "SelectedMailingAddress" field nor the Mailing
address fields noted above. Hence, when you import via Outlook - the
Mailing Address will be assigned to whatever the default is at the time for
new contacts. In short, you can not import/export a contact's specific
mailing address via the Outlook wizard nor designate which of the primary
addresses (Busines/Home/Other) is to be used as such. That's the way the
Outlook import/export wizard has worked since the dawn of time and
continues to work through to version O'2010.

Your options are to use the process described by Gordon which is the
correct approach to moving data from one Outlook config to another or use
one of the ContactGenie products that deals with this

Cool. Another reason to add to the list of why importing and exporting are a
poor choice for data migration.
