Exporer.exe hangs?

I'm having a problem where explorer.exe seems to hang. Applications
(generally ) continue to run, but the icons in the taskbar, for
instance, are no longer responsive and the clock in the toolbar has
stopped. I have to pull up task manager, kill explorer.exe, and then
restart explorer.exe to get it working again. I've checked for
viruses with the latest Symantic virus definitions; I've tried to
check for the blaster worm, but the symantic tool for checking to see
if the worm is present (fixblast.exe) crashes when it gets to a file
called windows\system32\e_ddd0re.wat -- a file to which I can find no
reference whatsoever from any source at Microsoft or on the Net. This
has made my system very unstable since last Thursday. Any ideas?

I'm running XP with SP1 and all the latest patches from Microsoft (as
far as I know)

TIA,

Mark

Go to Cnet.com and download adaware. You may have a hidden
pop up in the registry and it is hangin. Download it
install it and it will remove all ads. Just click start
and then next. Or re run IE 6

I've used Adaware and Spybot, and I'm still having the same trouble.
I removed the e_ddd0re.wat file and ran fixblaster, which ran fine
without that file on the disk, but that's showing no sign of blaster
infection.

I've also done a defrag, which I do fairly regularly. This time,
however, there are several files that the system can't defrag
(vba6.dll and wbdbase.enu]. I'm wondering if I've got a bad drive
sector, but scandisk isn't showing any. Nor is the XP-based disk
checking system that runs on startup when you tell Norton Disk Doctor
to fix any errors.

So, I'm still baffled, and I'm still losing my toolbar ever few
minutes. The apps continue to run, unless there's some aspect of them
that seems to rely on explorer (such as ie6 or any interaction that
relies on open or save, which hang until I kill explorer.exe and then
they wake up).

Any other thoughts?

Thaniks again,

Mark
