Is it possible to explore your computer drives (as in right click the start
menu, explore) and click on an image file with details and see the thumbnail
of that picture. I need to have both the explore part open, and details
active, yet would like to see the image as well.

No.

When right clicking the Start button and selecting Explore, you are not
opening Windows Explorer per se. You are opening a Start Menu folder.

Right click Start button | Explore defaults to %homepath%\Start Menu with
the Folders pane displayed.

The %homepath%\Start Menu folder is the Start Menu folder for whoever
happens to be logged on, i.e. the Current User.

The whole context menu is for the Start Menu and nothing else.

Thumbnails cannot be seen with the Folders pane displayed. To see
thumbnails you need common tasks displayed.

If you want to see thumbnails, use Open not Explore for whatever folder(s)
that have pictures in them.

Open and Explore are different.

Explore opens folders with Folders pane on the left.

Open opens folders with common tasks showing on the left.
