In Windows Explorer, if I right-click a drive letter, Explorer hangs and
stops responding. The same thing happens if I click a drive letter and then
click File. I have to open Task Manager and do End Task to recover.
You might want to do this so as to, for example, add a folder to the root
of a drive, or format a floppy, or eject a CD.
This happens with all drives, HDDs, floppies, CD ROMs, CD-R/RW, removable
(USB) storage etc.
I am using Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 1.
Any ideas, please?
Thanks.

Check your startup settings to find out if an application running in
the background is causing this. Applications that start with Windows
can be found here:
- the WIN.INI, section [windows], entries "run=" and "load="
- the Registry keys
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices
- the folders
C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\ALL USERS\START MENU\PROGRAMS\STARTUP
C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\{username}\START MENU\PROGRAMS\STARTUP
