Explorer won't work

Hi Guys,

I had a problem the other day with my laptop. Copy and
Paste would not work. Then suddenly Internet Explorer
crashed. Since then I can no longer open Windows Explorer
OR Internet Explorer.

When I try to open Windows Explorer I get this error
message:

"The insruction at "..." referenced memory at "....". The
meory could not be "written"

When I try to open Internet Explorer, I get a message
saying that there is a problem and Microsoft should be
sent the Error Report.

Any ideas ?
 
What do you see in your application and system event logs?
Can you open Windows Explorer or IE in safe mode?
 
I cannot view the system event logs because I cannot
access Control Panel either. When I select
Start/Setting/Control Panel nothing happens !

I am going to re-install Windows this evening to see if
this helps

Re-Installing Windows didn't help. I will try to log on in
Safe Mode this evening.

I also saw on another website that resetting the date on
my laptop might help - if you re-set the date to a date
prior to the error occuring, then I might be abelt o see
what is causing the problem ...

I think it has something to do with IE, because that's
what we were using prior to getting the problem.
 
I was able to open Explorer in safe Mode .. However I
presumed the error was with IE and so I chose the repair
option. This didn't help so I then try to revert back to
the older installation of IE - this didn't work either and
now Explorer will not work in Safe Mode anymore !!
