Explorer won't let me type, gives error and closes

I am able to go online and can surf via clicking with the
mouse. However, when I try to type in a URL or type a
password, etc. on a web page, Internet Explorer says it
has encountered an error and must close. I have cleared
all the caches and installed on the Windows updates. Any
suggestions.
