explorer window closes

When I first open internet explorer to a new page it works great but if I go
to open another window while leaving the other open the new one seems to over
power the first one and closes it

From IE> Tools> Internet Options> Advanced> Browsing> uncheck "Reuse windows
for launching shortcuts."

And... you may have a toolbar or program running which is blocking
pop-up windows- something like Yahoo toolbar, Google toolbar, MSN toolbar,
etc.
The Yahoo toolbar is a very common cause. Uninstalling the Yahoo toolbar
should allow a second window to open.

If you're sure that another program isn't causing this, these links should

You don't mention the version of Windows yo uare using, but, try the
following and see if it helps:

Go to Start>Run
Type this command in the window and hit enter
REGSVR32 URLMON.DLL.
You should see a message that it registered successfully
Click Ok and then reboot.

also....

Go to Tools>Internet Options> Advanced tab
UNcheck "Reuse windows for launching shortcuts"
Click Apply
Close IE, reopen and see if the problem still exists

and.....

If you have any popup blocker programs, disable them and try again

Also, if you have Yahoo Companion, Google toolbar, MSN toolbar, a firewall,
Earthlink (or another pop-up blocker) My IE2 (a shell for IE) etc.
Yahoo Companion is a very common cause, uninstall it.

You'll have to turn off the feature that's blocking new windows or, perhaps,
uninstall the program.

Thanks for the help. It was my internet providers toolbar that was problem. I
removed it and it is working find thx again
