I installed a new firewall that has been alerting me to a couple of things
that concern me.

First, when I tried to open a .pub file from my cdrom drive, publisher
wanted to connect ot crl.verisign.com.

Then went I tried to use exploerer to search for "crypto" (I in advertently
clicked on a .crl file in my browser), my firewall saied explorer wanted to
connect to sa.windows.com.

What's going on?

Hi Hooligan :-)

Take a look at the following information and see if it helps answer your
questions?

What is sa.windows.com
http://groups.google.com/group/micr...0TK2MSFTNGP11.phx.gbl&rnum=1#74b9bb766dc1b6e7

as for crl.....it's harmless. It's Verisigns' "Certificate Revocation List",
and it is sort of needed. Take a look at the information here:
http://slashdot.org/it/04/01/08/1849245.shtml?tid=126&tid=128&tid=172&tid=95

First:

Check your computer clock and date setting. It is very important that the
time of your computer clock is correct. Every Certificate has an expiration
and start date. When your clock time or date is off, even just a few
minutes or hours, it may cause the Certificates to be seen as invalid or
expired, which can cause various problems. So, be sure your machine date
and time are always set correctly.

if not joy....

You might be able to disable it by going to
Tools-> Internet Optionis> Advanced
Scroll Security section> UNcheck the box entitled "Check for publisher's
certificate revocation"

But...be ware...doing this, if a certificate is revoked you won't be
notified about it.

Hope this helps.
