If I click on an internet streaming audio source using IE that uses WMP I
have to save a header to the desktop and click on that or I get a box
telling me that the file format is not recognized.
However if I click on the same source using Firefox the stream automatically
opens in WMP as it should.
Why does Firefox get it right and Microsoft screw the pooch on Microsoft's
own audio file format?

What's the URL?

This *should* either be a bad source URL (MIME types not configured
properly) or that your local system's file associations are broken.

As regards the latter possibility, IE does a security check as part of IE's
progressive download support - since Firefox doesn't support that, you
wouldn't see that security check ever fail there since they don't run it.

What third party players are on the system? A number do stomp on WMP's file
associations as many aren't really Vista compatible yet.
