Hi there,

I ended up with a doozy of a problem by appearances.....

In my Windows Explorer, I have both C:\ and E:\ as being the same...

D:\ is the CD rom drive.

How can I get rid of E:\ ? All files in both C:\ and E:\ are exactly the
same, just a "ghosted" duplicate.

Thanks,

Gordon

Hi Gordon,

You are stating that you only have one hard drive with one partition, but
you are seeing both it (C:\) and a duplicate of it (E:\) in Windows
Explorer?

Start/run regedit, navigate here:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MyComputer\NameSpace

See if there is a key below this one that corresponds to E:\. If so, export
a copy, then delete just that key (not the entire namespace one).

Hi Rick!

Checked that part out and nothing there with E:\.....

Would it be in mounted drives area?

Thanks,

Gordon

Registry editing should be your last resort.

Never go to the registry when a valid tool and procedure exist. Fingerplexy
happens.

Right click my computer go to manage.

Click on disk managment icon.

Right click the volume that has two identities.

Choose manage drive letters and paths

Remove the e:\ designation.

Hi Manny and Rick,

That's the weird thing, E:\ does not show in disk management area.... but
shows up as a duplicate of C:\ in explorer.....

I've made a ghost backup image of the hard drive, so I can try
anything......

Any ideas??

Gordon

What do you see there? (mounted devices)

Curious. Export a copy of both it and the corresponding volume key (top line
in your image), then delete both. See if it resolves the problem. If other
issues arise, reimport the copies by double clicking them. If all seems
well, you can delete the copies after a time.

Hi Rick and all.....

Okay, spent a good couple of hours trying these different things and seems
half the programs are originating in C:\ and half in E:\, so the registry
must be corrupted and jammed at this point and along with some scumware
that's probably in the system, I did a FAST backup and will do a fresh
install and restore from the FAST, etc.

Thanks all for your advice and I sure learned more about the registry this
time!

What do you have as the Target when you right click in Start\Programs\Windows Explorer\Properties? Can you post back with what is in the Target Box.

You should have this. %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe / c:
Do you have this %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e, c:
