somehow my settings changed and now i have a lot of
unused real estate on many of my explorer pages. some
pages completely fill in, but most leave a lot to the
rigth side. what did i do, and how do i undo it?

This is usually due to a change in your video resolution settings. Right
click an empty spot on your Desktop, then click Properties...Settings and
change your screen resolution down a notch or two - generally 800x600 is the
norm on the web. If your settings are higher, sites like msn.com,
msnbc.com, cnn.com will have a blank area to the right - which they usually
detect and fill in with ads.
