Hi There,

When I click on "My Computer", the system errors and asks to send report to
microsoft, after I click on send, the whole window refreshes.

I am able to use Internet Explorer, but if I type "C:\" or "D:\" at the
address bar, same problem happens. It seems that the local file system is not
accessable by explorer.

I am still able to use dos to access the local file system.

Many thanks

Michael

See what Event Viewer has in it's log. Select Start button/ select Run , then type in

eventvwr.msc<enter>

-- or Go to Control Panel / Performance and Maintenance/Administrative Tools >Event Viewer.

Review the sections and look for Errors or Warnings that match the time the event occurred.
Double click---the information "may" give a clue.

How long has this problem been occurring? Did it just start on April 11th?
and do you have HP external devices, or HP's Share-TO-Web software ? or Kerio firewall?

If yes, to any of last 3 points: Security update 908531 has caused various Windows & Internet Explorer problems & the 911567 update has caused problems for many Outlook Express users.

If you have update 908531, take a look at these articles:

Problems in Windows Explorer or the Windows shell after you install security update MS06-015 (article published 15 Apr-06)
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/918165

and http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms06-015.mspx which has been updated 4-15-2006

The first article was published Saturday, and the latter updated also.

The first article mentions Hewlett-Packard's Share-to-Web software & Kerio personal firewall. If you have either, you're highly encouraged to read the articles.

If you have Hewlett-Packard's Share-to-Web software, then do see & I'd suggest you apply Freudi's registry patch
http://patch-info.de/WinXP/Downloads/KB908531_Share-To-Web.zip
Extract the ZIP file and afterwards double click the contained REG
file. Let it import into the registry.
