explorer problems

Recently everytime i open either internet explorer, or any windows exlporer and error scrren pops up. It reads," interent explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close, We are sorry for the inconvenience". Ive check you updates from the microsoft webpage and ive downloaded all of the recent ones. Nothing has seemed to help. Ive also scann my computer for viruses using Norton professional 2003, and it has found nothing. Any help would be much appreciated.

Well, between me and the tech support from microsoft, we have narrowed it down to being a virus that noone can seem to locate are remove. It doesnt show on any lists, or any scans, and we checked for software faults. Dont know what my choices are from here, except maybe reformat and start from scrath. If anyone knows how to fix this, id sure like to know.
