John

I believe my Explorer program is damaged. I cannot access
many sites (DMV, cheap tickets, etc) and the security
setting is where it is supposed to be. When I try to
updat it from this site, I get error number (0x80090305).
All I want to do is uninstall and install a new Explorer
(I cannot even tell which one I have in the properties
window.) Please help.

you can tell what version of ie your using if you open ie
explorer and at the top on the tool bar click help and go
down to about internet explorer and click on it and the
first item listed will be version.wish i could help you
with the rest of your problem but thats all i can do.hope
it helps you.

Becky,
That only works if you can open explorer. I have been trying for the last 2 days to get Explorer to start...and I'm afraid that inspite of an up-to-date Norton suite, I was hit by the worm of the last few days. Whenever I try to start, it immediately gives an error, and prompts me to send an error report to Microsoft. I did once...and then realized that you are probably getting bombarded with these messages from all over.
I tried restoring...I am about to try recover...followed by reformat and reload from my HP set of XP discs. But surely there is a simpler way to re-install explorer???

Eureka!!! I found the following post by Ramesh earlier which fixed my problem in about 30 seconds

To test with: Disable third-party browser extensions in Internet
Explore
1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel
2. Double-click Internet Options
3. Click the Advanced tab
4. Under Browsing, clear the Enable third-party browser extensions
(requires restart) check box
5. Restart Internet Explorer
