I noticed during this weekend trying to copy/move files from my old
harddsik/old PC to my new one that the Vista Explorer has big trouble with
lot's of small files and will end copying with an 'Out Of Memory' message.
I'm a little bit shocked by this behavior. Any registry setting which can
help me that this OS will copy/move as much files as needed ?

2 GB RAM
2 Harddisk 400 GB

Thanks for this Michael :) I was even in the mood to do it with Total
Commander but somehow I'm a bit shocked. Don't get me wrong. I'm not thinking
that Vista/MS is bad but a simple filecopy operation (ok a lot of files :D)
should work out of the box or ?
I know Robocopy as I have used it in the past to transfer files from Server
to Server but prefer to refuse to use it on a brand new OS.

mister.jones posted his solution to the mess you get if you forget /XJ.
The /XJ switch wasn't in the Wikipedia Robocopy article - I added it.

Responding to others with your complaint, Richard Urban has said
he has no problem copying masses of files in Vista. In a few months,
SP1 will come out, and the alpha phase of RTM ought to diminish.

You are an unusual CDO poster - most people using the web interface
seem to be completely incapable. I suppose you could find the post
on the CDO by searching " mister.jones " but there's another way.

Copy the above line into IE's address window and key Enter.
Outlook Express (or WinMail) ought to cough up mister.jones' post.

Michael,
thanks for pointing me to this and we may have an answer. I would say if the
solution/problem is related to this I owe Microsoft a beer :) As soon as I
know what's the problem I will report back.

Seems the problem is related to the latest official Kaspersky 6.x version. I
did a new test moving the files inside this file (over 30000 files)
http://rapidshare.com/files/18587771/players.zip.html with Kasperky still
installed and get the "Out Of Memory" message.
Booted in Save Mode and removed Kaspersky. Booted again and did the file
copy once again and now I was able to copy the files.
Have opened a support call at Kaspersky with no response yet but thinking
about moving to another one.

Avast is free and Vista compatible. I (and many others) use it. While
you're waiting for Kaspersky to get its act together you could try it.

I'm waiting for F-Prot - nothing there for Vista yet. I like its very minimal
monitoring component. NOD-32 has a small one also, but it isn't easy
getting everything configured. They claim to be Vista compatible.
