Greetings

I have a strange problem which has been plaguing me for
some time.
I have set up a trust between domains in my tree. Both
domains native mode, running AD, Microsoft DNS (2 DNS
servers in trusted domain, 1 DNS server in trusting
domain), the trust seems to set up correctly since if I
open explorer (on a server in the trusted domain) and type
\\computername I can browse the shares on any of the
machines in the other (trusting) domain. The problem is
that if in my network places I double click on the
trusting domain name I get the message

Domainname is not accessible
The list of servers for this workgroup is not available

I need to browse the trusting domain in this way in order
to have my backup device in the trusted domain and back up
the servers in the trusting domain.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to fix this
problem? Nay help would be most gratefully accepted.

Thanks in advance

Graeme

DNS resolution works across multiple subnets but NetBIOS doesn't without
WINS.
You need WINS on both domains that has a replicating partner in each domain.
Then in each subnet you need to log one machine onto the other domain on
each end to act as browse master. The DCs should work fine for this.
