Explorer move files BUG!

Why haven't I heard of people complaining about how
Windows Explorer moves files and directories without
asking "Are you sure?"

This happens when you are moving your mouse in Explorer,
and by mistake, touch the left mouse button and instantly
you have moved a whole directory structure to somewhere
else on your drive. This happens so fast that you
sometimes don't even realize that you have moved something.

I am the Information Services Manager for an Architecture
firm with 80 employees. I can't believe that we are the
only ones experiencing this problem. The users move
directories (by mistake) everyday. Some of these
directories contain 1GB of data, and is moved in a split
second, so the user doesn't know what they have done. I
have asked all the users to only use the right mouse key
to move and copy, but the problem still persists.

If Microsoft would have Explorer just ask "Are you sure
you want to MOVE X to Y?" then the problem would go away.
I have had no luck asking Microsoft for help and I have
not found a third party add-on that fixes this BUG. I
don't want to replace Explorer because the users are used
to Explorer and they don't what to learn a new program.

I would also love to know why Microsoft made this change
in the first place! The old File Manager from Windows 3.1
even asked "Are you sure you want to MOVE X to Y?"

Any ideas?

I don't know why more people haven't complained about
this. I for one would like the Windows 3.1 File Manager
feature that asked for confirmation. Perhaps there is a
registry setting?
In the meantime it may help to remind you that Ctrl-Z will
undo the move if you realize you've done a move but don't
know what you've moved.

Like you said, Ctrl-Z works great IF you realize that
you've done something, the problem is that the users don't
have a clue that they have done anything. They only moved
the mouse across the screen; there are no visual clues
that they have moved anything.

I don't know of a registry setting.

Maybe someone out there can help us, but since you and I
seem to be the only ones that are experiencing this
problem, I wouldn't hold your breath.

I have posted this question many times over the past few
years and spoken directly to Microsoft. The MS response
of course is that this is a "FEATURE" not a "BUG". The
typical responses in the newsgroups range from "Train your
users better" to "Purchase a "REAL" file manager".

Oh well, hopefully one day someone will read my threads
and see beyond the "go around the problem" responses and
find a good solution.
