Explorer mode in XP Home

I need to destroy a flaky partition on my HDD but have
forgotten how to set up a back up patition with the
ability to do a SINGLE LEFT click on any item in the top
right hand panel of the 'START' menu. Any ideas please?
Microsoft article 307856 does not seem to be answer - or
is it?

Right click the Start Button/Properties/Customize/Advanced/My
Computer/Display as a menu.

I'm not sure what you're asking about the start menu but if you use
Taskbar/Start Menu properties> Start Menu> Customize, you can add/remove
items from the right hand side of the start panel. You can also elect to
have them shown as menu items or a link. From your description, It sounds
like you would want these items set to "show as link."
