Explorer Freezes Up When Scrolling

I have WindowsXP, I connect to the internet with a cable
modem, I browse with Explorer.
My computer freezes up completely EVERY time I use the
scroll wheel on my mouse or try to drag the navigational
scroll bar on the side of the window. It doesn't matter
what web site I am visiting. It happens with every one.
I also have AOL and I went to that site and typed a URL
into their browser. I can scroll to my hearts content
there without freezing.
Anyone here have some insight on this.
I've seen several posts about freezing up, but either no
responses, or no useful responses.
