I'm sorry if this is an old question, but how can I tweak the folder tree in
Windows Explorer to suit myself?

It's wasting a lot of my time always opening on "my documents" so that I
have to get to "my computer" then drive C and finally to the directory I
want.

How can I make Windows Explorer open on the C drive with the directories on
that drive visible?

Thanks in advance. All assistance gratefully received.

Thanks.

You know, I followed the instructions under
Change the Windows Explorer Default Startup Folder
and it had no effect.

I wonder why.

Type this in Start/Run:

Explorer /e,C:\

You can create a desktop shortcut for this command.

%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /n,/e,c:\

Copy the line above.
Right click on your Explorer icon and click on Properties.
Either delete what you have in the "Target" field and paste, or if the
"Target" is highlighted, you can just do a paste.
Apply and OK.
That should open you up to C:\ with the tree expanded.
Hope that's what you were after.

And once a shortcut is created you can assign a HotKey combo through the
shortcut's Properties 8^)

Okay, I guess I can do that, but isn't there any "legitimate" way to just
make XP act right?

It depends what you mean by "act right". Most people are far more interested
in opening the My Documents directory than opening the root directory. You
might need to do some tweaking to get XP to act right for you ;-)

All right!

Applause, applause, applause.

What microsoft had on their site doesn't work; but your target line does.

Thanks much.
