Explorer fails to explore

For some reason, when double clicking on the icons for my disks,
instead of opening/exploring the disk, I get an error message saying
that windows can't find a certain file. (Actually its a backup file
created by Nero and located on another disk.) I have never used that
backup file and had gone through and deleted it.

I can right-click on the drive icon and can use the explore option
there to open the disk. Has anyone seen anything like this? I've
been using XP for what seems like 6-7 years and have never run across
anything like this.

Thinking I may have been tagged with some kind of virus (although my
scans came up negative) I reinstalled Windows. Even after the
reinstallation, the problem still exists. I didn't reformat the drive
for the installation but I thought the reinstall would clear things
up.

Any advice, help, flaming, or ANY suggestions would be appreciated.

TIA

This the same problem as Search opening when double-clicking a drive or
folder.

Type the following commands in the Start > Run dialog box [Winkey +R]

cmd /k REG ADD "HKCR\Drive\Shell" /ve /d none

and

cmd /k REG ADD "HKCR\Directory\Shell" /ve /d none
