Explorer exits on its own

When I click on a Yahoo game IE exits immediately. I understand you need a Java installed to play. When I go to Java site and click on download for their free software IE exit immediately. Happens sometimes in other sites.

Had not had this problem until, when I was in IE, I experienced a power surge. Have had the problem since then. Have tired to download IE Service Pak 1 from Microsoft site and it won't install, it says I already have a newer version on my computer. I have a one month old Dell.

I run Zone Alarm for a firewall but haven't changed any of its settings.

Any idea whats going on and how I might fix it?
