i have a folder full of my videos, when i open the folder the cpu use on
explorer.exe goes up to 97-98%. my videos are in thumbnail view and they
slowly preview. i have avg antivirus, windows xp firewall, i use spybot and
ad-aware. none of these programs have shown any problems. any help?

Choose Tools > Folder Options from the menu bar in that folder. Click the
View tab and make sure there's no checkmark next to "Do not cache
thumbnails". If that option is selected (checked) it has to render the
thumbnails each time. Hence the heavy workload and delays.

could also be caused by a corrupt video file.
Suggest copying them one by one to another folder, each time you copy a
file do a thumbnail view until you find a file that causes your CPU
usage to shoot up

hiya again, i've checked that the "do not cache thumbnails" was unchecked
which it was, going to try moving my files from there folder to another
folder while keeping the task manager open, thanks for the help so far i'll
let you no how i get on, marc

moved all the files from one folder to another, still took time for the
thumbnail to show, eventually when all files had been moved i had a full set
of thumbnails, then i closed the folder. later on i restarted my computer and
discovered the same problem!!! cpu use at 98%, nightmare!!!
