explorer.exe right click error

I recently upgraded my home network: 1 desktop, 1 wireless
notebook, both running W2K Pro. I have cable modem,
wireless router, desktop NIC, wireless NIC. The network
appeared to work fine on upgrade. I can access internet
from both machines via IE 6.0. However, I can't
communicate from the notebook to the desktop.

When I right click on Network Connection (via Network and
Dial-Up Connections) and the click on the Properties
label, I get the following error message:

"explorer.exe has generated errors and will be closed by
Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error
log is being created."

Thus, I can't check or modify my network properties.
Also, I can ping the notebook from the desktop, but I
can't ping the desktop from the notebook. Dr. Watson
indicates an "application error, access violation
cx00000005".

Can anyone help resolve this problem? Many thanks!

This problem was solved by re-installing the NIC drivers,
all of them. Apparently, when Netgear installs the
drivers before replacing the old NIC, all of the files are
not removed if you have more than one NIC on your
computer. This creates an access violation in
explorer.exe.
