Hi,

I have two servers clustered together. Oracle 8i is
installed on them. The console is not responding some
times and I need press ctrl+alt+del, choose task manager
and end the process explorer.exe. Then I will get all the
icons on the desktop. This is happening every frequently.
I have SP3 installed on the servers.

1. How can I resolve the explorer.exe problem explained
above?
Thanks for any help

Regards

David

Hi David,
I had the same problem. We placed the Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 cd into the sytem and did an upgrade. It didn't delete any of the files on the system. Once you load it, you want to do a fresh install, accept the agreement, then select repair from there. If you select the initial repair option, it will not resolve the explorer issue. After installing, you have to go through the initial set up as if you were loading for the first time. Once up, upgrade to SP4 and load appropriate security patches.

Hi Twiana,

Thanks for the solution. I will try this option. Thanks
once again.

Guys,

a bunch of our servers had the same problem and it turned out to b
issues with COM+. More specifically some COM+ applications installations
such as service packs and hotfixes (like the recent vulnerability patches)
when they install may then afterwards called regsvr32 to register them
selves. During this process they create .clb files in the
c:\winnt\registration folder . If it fails here it leaves 0Kb size .clb
files. This will cause issues with COM+ applications like explorer.exe.
Remove these 0Kb size .clb files and yu should be OK. Obviously you will
need to ensure what ever app that did this is properly installed as it
must have failed to some extent (regsvr32 type stuff)
