explorer.exe has generated errors...shutting down

When I try to open a file thru windows explorer the system
gives me a "explorer.exe has generated errors and is
shutting down" message. I recently upgraded to sp4 but
this didn't start occuring until much later. I've removed
Norton Clean Sweep that has been know to cause this
problem.

Any thoughts?

Repair Internet Explorer. Possible it won't work but a good first step.
