A neighbor of mine updated his Windows 2000 Pro laptop to protect himself
against the Blaster Worm.

It updated about 98% of the way then errored out. When he restarts his
computer and logs in, he now gets the following error:

"explorer.exe has generated an error and will be closed by Windows. You will
need to restart the program. An error log is being created."

We tried booting into safe mode and last best known configuration and
neither help. He still gets the error message.

Does anyone have an idea how to fix this new problem?

Thanks,

Ben

The Windows desktop won't mount after getting that error message so i don't
know how to go about disabling the error reporting tool. Also, i believe the
error is referring to Windows Eplorer not IE.

Thanks,

Ben

Tried safe mode and last best known config and neither helped. Tried safe
mode with command prompt. That worked. But that leaves you with no GUI.
Regular safe mode did not work.

"Start in Safe-Mode and then tell us if the same behavior." -GH

"Tried safe mode and last best known config and neither helped" -bk

I am going to assume the behavior continues while in Safe Mode. Please
tells us what the Event Viewer is saying when this occurs? Also, try in
Command Prompt with the Windows CD-ROM in the drive this:

sfc /purgecache

Then reboot.

I solved the problem.
Domain Users donot have access to /winnt/system32/ directory
I change permittions manually and it helped.
